I was doing some research the other day for a lovely lady on Instagram who has been struggling with Lipedema.
Lipedema is something that affects up to 11% of women and involves the irregular distribution of fat beneath the skin, usually in the buttocks and legs. Besides causing emotional distress it can have significant physical health concerns and can be very painful and uncomfortable, particularly during hot weather.
Whilst researching, I stumbled across some really cool information that was totally new to me that I knew would be of interest to SO many of you.
Are you familiar with the term ‘Thermogenic‘? Thermogenic means that something has the ability to increase our internal temperature and as a result increase our metabolic rate and our ability to burn fat or energy in general.
As it turns out- Coriander and Grapefruit essential oils are thermogenic which means they have the ability to help us dissolve fat in our body.
Ding ding ding! I know, who would have thought Coriander would be such a little weight loss wonder?
Coriander essential oil is both a thermogenic and lipolytic essential oil thanks to a lovely little compound called Linalool which Coriander just happens to be comprised of in large quantities.
Lipolyptic means that it encourages lipolysis or the process wherein fats and cholesterol are broken down (also known as the “hydrolysis of lipids or fats”).
What this means, especially for those who have are trying to loose weight, break down cellulite or support Lipedema, is that the faster the lipolysis, the quicker the weight loss. Combine this property with Coriander essential oils thermogenic nature and you have an all natural fat blaster direct from mother nature.
Grapefruit essential oil has a super high concentration (90%) of a compounds called d-limonene. This chemical compound also helps support metabolism by inducing lipolysis, the breakdown of fat. Interestingly, studies show that simply inhaling Grapefruit essential oil can have a positive impact on the rate of lipolysis in the body. Wowsers.
For those that need the Cliff Notes version – Coriander has the ability to support healthy weight management and decrease fat deposits in areas we don’t necessarily want them.
Grapefruit shares similar properties so together they could make a powerful combination. Grapefruit on an emotional and energetic level is the Oil of Honoring the Body which makes it rather perfect for establishing a healthy and loving relationship with our physical self.
Possible Uses for Coriander and Grapefruit Essential Oils-
- Make a body oil with a base of Jojoba or Fractionated Coconut Oil to massage into the body daily. To a 50ml glass bottle try 20 drops of Grapefruit and Coriander and fill the rest up with your carrier of choice.
- Place 2 drops of each essential oil in an empty veggie capsule with a little olive oil and take internally with your meals.
- Try 1 drop of each in your water bottle and sip throughout the day.
- Diffuse Grapefruit and Coriander together for an uplifting aroma.
