All About doTerra’s Adaptiv

It can make you one productive MOFO, it can calm you right down OR make you feel a little stoned and sleepy minus the munchies.
That’s the Adaptiv softgels for you. You never really know how someone will respond to them and it’s all down to our unique chemistry as to what outcome we will achieve.

Popping an Adaptiv for me resulted in my entire To-Do List being completed in hours instead of days. I feel crystal clear, calm, laser-focused and just ready for action! It’s my Limitless Pill for this reason and the best nootropic I’ve tried yet, though this won’t be everyone’s experience with it.

Let’s break this little wonder shall we?

In the Adaptiv Softgel we have Sceletium Root, Ahi Flower and GABA sourced from the fermentation of glutamic acid using lactobacillus bacteria + the essential oil blend of Lavender, Coriander, Fennel and Wild Orange.

Sceletium Root (otherwise known as Kanna) is a powerful alkaloid similar to Kava that supports the body’s ability to regulate and sustain serotonin and GABA levels in the body. Research shows it inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and as a result, helps maintain sufficient levels of serotonin in the brain and therefore help alleviate feelings of sadness. Sceletium also allows long periods of focused concentration without mental fatigue, and in the case of traditional use by hunters, allowed them to endure long periods of activity without food or water and without suffering physical fatigue. Hello Limitless!

GABA’s role is to counter the excitatory compounds in our brain, helping us unwind, relax, and feel at ease. It’s also one of the reasons so many people use alcohol to “relax and unwind” – alcohol is a GABA agonist, meaning it artificially mimics the role of GABA. The social ease we feel when drinking alcohol is actually GABA at play. GABA is referred to often as the Brakes of the Brain for it’s ability to quieten down all the noise, the monkey mind that might be getting the better of you.

Ahiflower is basically a powerhouse of essential fatty acids 3,6 and 9. Omega fatty acids in the correct profile are absolutely critical for a healthy brain and nervous system function as well as providing incredible inflammatory pathway support. Remember that fatty acids are crucial for a healthy nervous system. Our nerves are coated in a myelin sheath which is comprised of mostly fatty acids, cholesterol and protein. The myelin sheath allows electrical impulses to transmit quickly and efficiently along the nerve cells. If the myelin is damaged, these impulses slow down. Heavily processed and oxidised vegetable oils contribute to this so steer well clear of Margarine, Canola, Sunflower Oils or Vegetable blends.

Happy side effects of Ahiflower may be a clearing up of skin inflammation which I don’t think anyone will argue with.

The essential oils chosen are a combination of oils rich in the compound Linalool and are very calming and soothing to the autonomic nervous system (slow down the heart rate & breathing) and mood, possess mildly sedative properties whilst uplifting the senses at the same time. It’s a pretty cool blend.

I’ve heard SO many amazing testimonials about these softgels, from first responders such as Ambulance/ Emergency Workers, to kids struggling with school, concentration and study stress, post-trauma situations, veterans and more.

It blows my mind that we have an incredible plant-based tool for those looking to transition away from pharmaceuticals that is just so damn effective.

I do think its worth pointing out and being mindful that the brain will regulate its production of neurotransmitters based on how much is NEEDED. When we supplement with GABA, the brain doesn’t need to make as much, and so will down-regulate the production of GABA.

In time the brain will level up it’s production again so this is just a temporary slackness but there’s potential for it to not be a very fun time for someone whilst waiting for that to happen. Less GABA means increased excitation in the brain and decreased natural calming ability.

For this reason, unless you are dealing with a long-standing problem and trying to transition away from more conventional approaches, which let’s face it come with a boatload of nasty side effects and make it a bloody brilliant and far safer alternative, I would be mindful of daily use so the brain doesn’t get lazy with its innate manufacturing of GABA.

Remember that if you do need to take a break or run out of Adaptiv for some reason, up-level your intake of GABA rich foods such as Oolong Tea or White Tea, Cruciferous Veggies, Tomatoes, Mushrooms and fermented foods such as Kefir, yoghurt and tempeh.

For me, I take it when I’ve got a mother load of work to get through and I want to do it in a calm, laser-focused way OR when I’m looking to be in peak performance with full mental clarity for a project I’m working on.

Hope this is helpful info!
